the
well :
'the well,' my ba interior design major project(2025/26), sees the reuse of a victorian, neo-gothic coroners court + mortuary in ladywell, london, to an alternative burial project which uses 'promession,' the freezing and disintegration of the 'loved one' into a soil, as an alternative to cremation. this project, therefore, considers the role of the body in earth's natural cycles and its beginning and subsequent return to the earth. 'promession', here is used as a process through which to rediscover the lost 'lady-well' as means of communication with 'nature' itself, and also with the past, in order to inspire the steps we as humanity take into the future. the ultimate aim of the project is to highlight our current loss of 'wisdom' (our connection with the natural, sensual world which we are a part of) within the 21st century and so offers us a conceptual model for future spaces that will reform this. the project concludes that perhaps the only way in which to truly regain this wisdom is to rejoin with the earth, by means of becoming one with it once more in death...
