the water tile system was designed in order to create a spectacle of an everyday occurrence; rain. the system allows for the slowing down and redirecting of this rainwater as it passes through urban settings, ultimately aiming to reduce the flow of runoff. via a specifically designed wooden frame, the tiles are hung on blank walls around cities, for example, where they can catch and play with this flow of water. for humans, the system aims to stimulate the senses both visually and audibly, creating an unexpected moment of ease as they pass by within an otherwise noisy and impermeable landscape. for plant-life and animals, the tiles offer what are precious little pockets of ‘nature’ within these landscapes, where they can perch, drink or grow.
